Silixa strengthens its commitment to Carbon Capture and Storage monitoring technology development with new appointment

Silixa announces that Anna Stork joins the company’s UK branch in the capacity of Senior Geophysical Analyst, effective immediately.

Anna joins Silixa with 15+ years’ experience in seismology research and microseismic monitoring. Having worked for the University of Bristol, she specialized in using Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and hydraulic fracturing industry data to develop microseismic event detection and ambient noise tomographic techniques. Her work has been published widely in academic and industry forums.

Anna holds a Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Manchester, a Master of Science degree in geophysics from Durham University and a Doctorate in Seismology from the University of Oxford.

Silixa presenting at the SPE Aberdeen Inwell Monitoring & Surveillance Seminar 2019

Connect with us at the SPE Aberdeen Inwell Monitoring & Surveillance Seminar 2019 on 2 October 2019, where we will be presenting a case study on the use of engineered fibre optic sensing for production profiling.

Veronique Mahue, Silixa’s Data Science Lead & Flow Application Principal, will reveal how recent technology advances in the application of distributed fibre optic sensing enabled flow profiling of a horizontal tight gas producer, using both DAS and DTS recordings. The case study will demonstrate that DAS/DTS sensing cable interventions are a viable means to answer production or injection questions in wells that are difficult to address with conventional technologies.

During a survey, for the first time, a hybrid electric-line cable incorporating new engineered fibres was used for production monitoring.

The high sensitivity of Silixa’s engineered acoustic system, Carina® Sensing System,  allows for measurements of the propagating speed of sound in the well, hence enabling direct flow velocity measurements during a production interval. This translates as downhole velocity trending and flow profiling.

This new level of DAS data quality has led to enhanced inflow detection methods capable of identifying production entry points normally below DAS sensitivity thresholds. Examples of these detections will be shared during the presentation.

The presentation will conclude with a review of wrapped fibre optic arrangements that can be used, with DAS, to obtain surface and downhole flow meter readings to further improve the quality of production or injection profiling analysis.

SPE Aberdeen’s 4th Inwell Monitoring and Surveillance Seminar will explore advances in monitoring surveillance techniques, applications of data and flow control in the oil and gas industry.
