The Role

Reporting to the Field Service Manager, as a Distributed Sensing Applications Engineer, you will be responsible for the following (but not limited to):

  • Adhere to Company’s and clients’ HSE requirements and local legislation at all times and actively promote safe work practices
  • Operating knowledge of the iDAS and ULTIMA systems
  • Operating knowledge of Silixa proprietary software packages for data handling and processing
  • Planning and execution of distributed sensing data acquisition, ensuring that a strict acquisition program is formulated and followed
  • Post job finalisation of client deliverables consisting of processed data plots, digital data and end of well reports
  • Handling of optical fibers in preparation for data acquisition (stripping, splicing, testing etc)
  • Carrying out recommended equipment test and verification procedures
  • Participating in field installations and performing system troubleshooting and corrective actions when necessary
  • Preparing supporting documentation for all aspects of project execution including operations manuals, hook-up drawings, system diagrams, installation & commissioning procedures, H&S documentation, etc
    Maintaining all project folders and all supporting documentation
  • Providing feedback and communication for all internal and external clients, presenting data in technical meetings and reporting to project teams and management
  • Liaising with suppliers of equipment and contractors to both external and internal clients
  • Coordinating maintenance, troubleshooting and clients’ installations upgrades
  • Supporting ongoing in-house projects, installations and equipment manufacturing
  • Providing support to in-house projects and experiments and where appropriate, contributing to product development
  • Liaising with the business development managers and with Silixa’s technology advisors to ensure that DS surveys are well planned
  • Liaising with the Finance Department to ensure all projects are within budget and invoiced efficiently
  • Liaising with the Logistics Officer to ensure all shipments are on time and within budget
  • Adhering to company’s and clients’ HSE requirements and local legislation at all times and actively promoting safe work practices

 The Candidate:

We are looking for an energetic and dedicated individual with fibre optic experience in the energy industry (petroleum, renewable, electrical power).  The candidate should have the ability to work on their own initiative while also contributing to team-oriented projects. The position will require the candidate to be versatile, flexible, hands-on, and a self-starter.

The candidate must possess the self-confidence to challenge actions that may compromise the performance of Silixa’s technology. As the role will require the candidate to undertake a range of industry HSE training & certification before they can be deployed to the field, they must fulfil the medical requirements required to obtain the required certifications.

Qualifications/Experience

Ideally the candidate will have a relevant engineering or similar technical qualification. However, candidates with extensive field installation experience will be also considered.

  • Field installation
  • Hands-on experience of fibre optic sensing systems
  • Minimum of an HNC in an engineering or scientific discipline
  • Knowledge of seismic acquisition and basic data processing
  • Knowledge of distributed fibre optics measurements

Additionally candidates must

  • Be physically able to meet industry certification requirements

The Role

Reporting to a senior member of the technical team, the successful candidate will expand their skills and experience through working on Silixa’s world leading range of optical fibre sensors. The successful candidate will be expected to grow into a lead role in the test, characterisation and optimisation of new sensing systems, and their embedded optoelectronics modules. Included in this role is the development of new test rigs to characterise and so expand the performance of Silixa’s next generation of sensors. It is expected that the successful candidate would also lead the development of new optoelectronics assemblies which integrate into Silixa’s optoelectronics interrogators.

This role will be largely hands-on but will include data analysis and technical writing for both internal and external reports. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to support projects across different departments, which will offer an interesting insight into the various activities at Silixa. Through this role, the successful candidate will gain expertise in Silixa’s optoelectronics systems which could lead to opportunities to support Silixa’s worldwide field operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following (but not limited to):

  •  Design, build and operation of optoelectronic test rigs
  • Performing component, modular and full system testing
  • Designing optoelectronics assemblies and optimising their performance
  • Recommending and enacting system architecture improvements
  • Defining quality procedures and production test procedures
  • Organising and performing environmental qualification tests
  • Carrying out optoelectronics assembly and troubleshooting for R&D projects
  • Assisting with the transfer of products from Development to Production
  • Providing technical support and training to the Technology, Production and Operations departments
  • Organising user manual updates

 The Candidate:

We are looking for a technically strong individual with relevant experience in the area of optoelectronics, and preferably with optical fibre systems. The candidate should have the determination and diligence to complete a task to its full, even if under high pressure situations.

Qualifications/Experience

  • The successful candidate should have a good first degree and very likely a relevant higher degree (MSc or PhD)
  • A strong background in optoelectronics
  • Exposure to LabVIEW, Matlab and/or Python is useful, although not mandatory
  • Experience in electronic circuit design and troubleshooting would be advantageous
  • Experience of releasing a product from development to production is advantageous
  • Experience with optical fibre handling, for example fusion splicing would be advantageous
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage time and work to deadlines
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)

Reporting to the Business Development Manager – North America, as part of the Environmental, Infrastructure, and Mining team, as a Geophysicist you will be responsible for the following (but not limited to):

  • Microseismic data processing
