Silixa will be presenting at the Society of Exploration Geophysicists International Exposition and 88th Annual Meeting in Anaheim, CA, USA on 19 October 2018.
Mahmoud Farhadiroushan, Silixa’s Executive Director, will present on Fiber Optic Distributed and Engineered Acoustic Sensors for New Seismic and Microseismic applications at the Validating Measurements, Developing Processing Methods, and Integrating to Optimize Velocity Models for Improving Subsurface Imaging DAS workshop.
His presentation will focus on new applications enabled by Silixa’s Carina® Sensing System, the engineered acoustic sensor, that has 100x better SNR than other DAS systems due to its advanced sensing architecture.
In unconventional wells, in addition to seismic and microseismic measurements, the low frequency response of the Carina Sensing System, down to milli-Hertz, is used to monitor the hydraulically induced strain effect in offset wells that can provide valuable data for improving the understanding of the rock properties and determining the fracture heights as well as hydraulic connectivity between offset wells.
The system also has a high potential for use in subsea applications either by marinization of the DAS interrogator unit for direct installation near the wellhead to avoid the long-tie back fiber attenuations, or by combining existing fibers in the subsea umbilical with the enhanced optical signal received from the downhole Constellation fiber.
Mahmoud will present some initial results demonstrating the feasibility of deploying the new engineered acoustic system in subsea wells with long-offset over 20km distance.
