Connect with us at MassMin 2024 in Kiruna, Sweden on 17–19 September 2024

Join us at MassMin, the 9th international conference and exhibition on mass mining, in Kiruna, Sweden; the city that is home to the world’s largest underground iron ore mine and is at the forefront of an innovative green transition.

Held once every four years, MassMin will enable mining experts to gather and try to tackle the industry’s most pressing sustainability challenges.  The conference promises insightful discussions, groundbreaking insights, and networking opportunities.

Zara Anderson, Silixa’s Vice President Mining, will be presenting on “Rockmass Response Monitoring in Deep Mining Using DAS  and DSS, Distributed Fiber Optic Systems” on 18 September, 2024 (Wednesday) in the Dálvi Session Room A, at 14.00 pm.

Her presentation will reveal how distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) technology can help the mining industry undergo a technological transformation in the way it collects and utilizes data.

DFOS allows for continuous, real-time monitoring of temperature, strain, and seismic activity. It does so by acquiring data with fine spatial and temporal resolutions, enabling advanced monitoring for improved safety and stability of mining operations.

Zara’s presentation, through examples and case studies, will discusses the technology’s status, advancements and limitations with special focus on challenges related to block cave monitoring and instrumentation.
