See us at the 7th International Symposium on Mine Safety Science and Engineering (ISMSSE 2024)

Join us at the 7th International Symposium on Mine Safety Science and Engineering (ISMSSE 2024) in Pittsburgh, USA on 17–21 August, 2024.

Zara Anderson, Silixa’s Vice President Mining, will deliver the keynote titled “A Safer Future: Unleashing Technology’s Potential in Mining” on 17 August 2024.

Over the past several decades, the landscape of mining health and safety has undergone gradual yet substantial improvements. As the industry strives to cultivate a safety-conscious workforce, technological innovation plays a pivotal role in mitigating hazards. Rapid technological advances are generating opportunities to enhance safety at an unprecedented pace. Two key areas where technology has made remarkable strides are automation and remote monitoring. These advancements have significantly transformed safety measures.

In her presentation, Zara will delve into Distributed Fiber Optics Sensing technology and its early applications in assessing the rockmass response in underground mines.

Using combined DSS and DAS it is possible to measure the rockmass strain changes and microseismic response in real time. The technology, although extensively used the primary solution in some other industries, is now advancing in the mining sector, and can be expected to become a standard monitoring platform in deep mines in the coming years.
