Thermal profiling along a flowline, umbilical or riser can provide an operator with a wealth of useful information enabling reduced OPEX and improved operational efficiency.

Hydrate formation is dependent on the operating temperature and pressures of the flowline. By knowing the temperature of the flow accurately then the requirement for inhibitor can be monitored and only added as necessary.
A leak of fluid or gas within a riser or umbilical will give rise to a localised change of temperature in the fibre optic cable closest to the leak – by detecting this change the operator can be alerted quickly allowing immediate action to be taken and the effects of the leak minimised.
By interrogating an optical fibre placed within the pipe and using a distributed temperature sensor (DTS) located within the control room an accurate picture of the temperature profile along the flowline can be obtained. Up to 40,000 high resolution temperature measurements can be captured simultaneously letting the operator see the state of their asset in sub-metre detail and with a resolution of « 1°C. Information can be refreshed at on second timescales. All this can be delivered from a single optical fibre contained within a cable.
As well as providing the operator with a continuous temperature profile along the asset, Silixa can also deliver automated alarms based on user-configurable criteria, such as max/min temperature and rate of change.
