Silixa exhibiting and presenting at the CIM EXPO in Vancouver, BC, Canada on 1–4 May 2022

Join us at the CIM EXPO in Vancouver, BC, Canada at booth #526 on 1–4 May 2022. We will be showcasing our pioneering distributed fiber optic sensing-based solutions which enable unmanned and remote monitoring operations, improving the sustainability of mining processes by making them safer, more productive and energy efficient.

In the first of our presentations, we will outline our Integrated Temperature, Seismic and Strain Platform that offers a comprehensive solution to monitoring the integrity of tailings facilities.

By deploying fiber optic cables as the sensing element, and which can extend over many kilometers, the system can monitor gradual or sudden movements or subsidence in and around the monitoring volume with micron resolution. The same fiber optic cable can simultaneously monitor seepage through the structure.

Delivering ultra HD quality distributed temperature, strain, and acoustic measurements in real-time, the system offers early alerts of potential problems, minimizing the risk of dam failures.

Our second presentation, titled Rockmass Response and Seismic Monitoring using Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), will provide an overview of DAS technology in applications such as block caving, pre-conditioning and VSP  surveys.

As mines increase production rates and reach greater depths, the higher stress condition and elevated seismic activity lead to increased instability risk and challenges production planning.

Distributed Acoustic Sensing is an innovative technology that enables both active and passive seismic monitoring on continuous or on-demand bases, enhancing the safety of mining operations.

The presentation will also reveal how strain data can be integrated to map the status of rockmass.
