Silixa presenting at the SPE Workshop on In-Well Fibre-Optic Sensing — Applications for Field Development, Integrity and Optimisation in The Hague on 22–23 February 2023

Connect with us at the SPE Workshop on In-Well Fibre-Optic Sensing — Applications for Field Development, Integrity and Optimisation in The Hague on 22–23 February 2023! We will be sharing our latest work on DAS-based high-temperature geothermal field monitoring.

Over the past 30 years, distributed fiber optic sensing went through a significant evolution and has yielded remarkable well and reservoir monitoring results.

Glynn Williams, Silixa’s CEO, will deliver a keynote speech, recounting the impact that fibre optic sensing has had on the industry and illustrate where fiber optic sensing  can have an increasing impact as we transition into carbon capture/storage and geothermal energy management and expand into adjoining energy commodity and environmental spaces.

Achieving net-zero emissions requires the adaptation of existing technologies and the development of new techniques. Geothermal energy is considered to be a renewable source of energy that can help combat climate change; however, it is less well known that most geothermal plants emit carbon dioxide (CO2) or other greenhouse gases.

Athena Chalari, Silixa’s BDM Environmental Applications, will present on the use of distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) for monitoring high temperature geothermal fields. She will give a detailed overview of a recent project at the Kizildere Geothermal plant in Turkey, where energy is produced from a carbonate hydrothermal reservoir. Two existing wells have been equipped with fibre-optic monitoring cables to investigate the feasibility of injecting produced and captured CO2 into the reservoir as a supercritical fluid. The aim of the project was to provide baseline and time-lapse monitoring of the injection process.

The workshop will bring together technical experts to demonstrate the value and benefits of fiber-optic sensing. They will address how they use the technology to maximize asset value, with specific topics relevant to Europe/North Sea/Middle East energy producers.
