Silixa presenting at the SPE/AAPG/SEG CCUS Latin America Conference in Rio de Janeiro on 23–24 May 2024

Join us at the SPE/AAPG/SEG Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage Confrence on 23–24 May 2024 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Visit us at our booth  104 to learn about our pioneering Carina® CarbonSecure™ CO2 monitoring solution.

David Podrasky, Silixa’s Geophysicst, will also be presenting on Suitability of active CO2 injection wells for long-term CCUS monitoring with distributed fiber optic sensing.

His presentation will reveal how Silixa’s CCS monitoring solution, Carina® CarbonSecure™, was designed to help successfully move towards a carbon-neutral and sustainable energy future by ensuring the safety of any carbon sequestration project offshore or on land.

CO2 injection projects have reporting requirements relating to induced seismicity, well integrity and CO2 plume distribution monitoring over time to inform compliance with regulations. Permanently installed distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) cables can record data continuously or on-demand without the need to interrupt CO2 injection activities.

Although production or injection wells are often considered too noisy to be suitable for in-well DAS measurements, an analysis of the ambient noise recorded by DAS in active CO2 injection wells at several CCUS sites has demonstrated that noise issues present in many oil and gas wells do not necessarily apply to CO2 injection wells. From the documented cases, no noise limitation has been identified for using CO2 injectors for DAS measurements to acquire DAS VSP data for CO2 plume mapping and to monitor for induced seismicity and well integrity.

Case studies will illustrate the efficiency and reliability of Silixa’s distributed sensing-based Carina® CarbonSecure™ monitoring system that enables the reporting requirements without the need for costly in-well interventions and mobilizations.
